Hello
How to Win Every Kentucky Derby

Last Saturday was a pretty big deal in Louisville, KY. The
136th running of the Kentucky Derby.
You know who the stars of this year's Derby were? Not Calvin
Borel. Not Todd Pletcher. Not even Super Saver.
The stars were the weather forecasters. Local weather
forecasters and national ones from the Weather Channel were
front-and-center on national television. And people hung on
their every word with more anticipation than Churchill Down's
most sage horse trainer.
Because if you watched any of this year's Derby, you saw that
Louisville was blanketed with rain this weekend.
I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that a world-famous
event like the Kentucky Derby means so much to the Louisville
economy. From all the cash being gleaned by local businesses to
Louisville's public relations image, the Derby is, in many
respects, the "face" of Louisville. And I'm also certain it
doesn't surprise you to learn that Louisville prays every year
for good weather during the Derby.
Well this year Mother Nature did not cooperate. The weather was
miserable; cold, hard rain fell through much of Saturday and
soaked everyone in the city. It really put a damper on the
Derby, let me tell you that people reported that they had to
drink twice as much as usual to forget about the weather!
Okay, the drinking comment was a joke. Mostly. But the rainy
weather, the attention it received, and the gloomy effect it had
on Derby festivities reminded me of something very important I
want to pass on to you. And its something that many Derby
revelers clearly understood: you and I carry our own sunshine
inside of us and that sunshine is available irrespective of the
actual weather.
I'll give you three guesses as to the best way to make your
internal sunshine radiate today. No, it's not a mint julip! Of
course you already know the answer: your humor nature!
And since I can assure you there will be many, many more rainy
Derbies in our future, I encourage you to reapply yourself to
the lessons you glean from It All Starts with a SMILE and this
newsletter. That way, you'll be more than ready for the next
thunderstorm.
