Hello
How to Quit Hating Your Neighbor

In the last Fun Times we discussed my Fun
Commandment, Welcome Your Mistakes. Today
I'd like to take you a step further -
welcome other people's mistakes too.
Why? When you don't allow for other
people's mistakes you will find yourself
getting angry at them. And anger
eventually turns into resentment.
And having resentment in your life is like
you drinking poison and saying, "Now I hope
that person dies!"
Here's a hypothetical example: Let's say
that your neighbor hates you. What happens
if you don't allow her mistakes and hate
your neighbor back?
First your temper will be lost in your
anger. Next your digestion will be upset
by your anger. Then your peaceful night's
sleep will be compromised by both your
anger and also your digestive problems.
Your toxic anger, digestive problems, and
lack of sleep will combine to create a foul
mood. Your foul mood will keep friends and
loved ones at bay. Being left alone by
friends and loved ones will create a
snowball effect on your mood, making it
even worse!
Finally you will get more gray hair and
wrinkles on your face from your growing
anger, bad moods, and lack of sleep.
And guess what the end result of all this
will? Your neighbor will be very pleased. Because
she got what she wanted without
having to physically assualt you.
You assualted yourself by not allowing her
mistakes!
Stop your self-assualts today. Begin
offering other people the same breaks your
giving yourself. Allow them to make
mistakes and be wrong.
The irony of this practice is that the
peace and compassion you'll develop is so
much stronger then the anger and resentment
you might've had. In fact, that's why I
have a Fun Commandment called Practice
Compassion.
But that's a story for another issue of The
Fun Times. Until then, strive to see those
making mistakes around you as your
teacher. They're going to help you become
happier and healthier if you let them!
