Hello
How to Get Along with Just About Anyone

"It all starts with a SMILE"
We start with the premise, of course, that
you are already perfect. You are just like
you’re supposed to be and you were born
with everything you need to thrive as a
human being. None of your precious tools
have ever left you; they might be a bit
rusty, but they remain at your beck and
call.
And the most precious of your tools is your
humor nature. As you employ the Fun
Commandment, Admit When You're Wrong (and
my others), you realize that you really
don’t need anything else.
Your reluctance to admit your mistakes is
called perfectionism. Perfectionism is the
opposite of your perfection; it is your
attempt to be something you’re not – an
errorless, blemish-free person.
Perfectionism is all about trying to
measure up to imagined (and impossible)
standards so that you will be accepted by
others. And, most importantly, accepted by
yourself.
But the only person you fool with
perfectionism is yourself. The only person
who is disappointed by your being wrong is
you. We can all clearly see that you are
often wrong and you make mistakes
regularly.
And we don’t love you in spite of that
fact, we love you for it! We know that you
are exactly like you’re supposed to be, a
fallible human just like us.
Admitting it when you’re wrong builds
bridges of trust between you and others. It
shows others humility and self-
confidence to be so unashamed of yourself. After
all, it’s harder to trust someone
when they obviously feel insecure about
themselves, which your reluctance to admit
when you’re wrong clearly betrays.
Perhaps even more importantly, though,
admitting it when you’re wrong releases you
from the prison of your high, unrealistic
expectations. You feel less stress because
you no longer have to stay one step ahead
of the angry mob that will surely catch on
to your charade. You’ll also experience an
infusion of energy since you won’t be
expending so much keeping up your illusions
of perfectionism.
Try saying it out loud right now, “I was
wrong. You were right.” Not that hard to
say, is it? And when you say it to another
person you’re going to be really surprised
by something. No one is all that shocked;
they already knew it and they don’t really
care…except that they’ll be grateful you
said it.
You’ll be freed. Your friend will feel
you’re more trustworthy. And you’ll be
infused with energy. In all it’s a great
deal just for saying one little phrase.
Use this Fun Commandment and unleash your
humor nature in amazing and powerful
ways.
