The Fun Times - When to Cry and When to Laugh

Hello

When to Cry and When to Laugh

By Cliff Kuhn, M.D.

"It all starts with a SMILE"

Life is full of unfun moments. This weekend my wife and I
discussed the parceling out of my in-law's possessions with our
children. We asked them to let us know what momentos they might
like. To remember them by.

Part of the healthy humor you've learned through It All Starts
with a SMILE is that, unless everyone can laugh, there is
usually no place for laughter. And when a loved one is passing,
there is a period of time where laughter is far from appropriate.

Your healthy humor, after all, is not about laughing away your
woes. To the contrary, it is healthy and appropriate to feel
sad and cry when life takes an unwanted turn. Your healthy
humor is about having a perspective of lightness that allows you
to survive, and even thrive, amid sad and unwanted events. This
weekend reminded me of that.

So how can you best prepare your humor nature for the inevitable
sad and unwanted events? Make sure you're enjoying your life
right now. Make sure you're not waiting for life to "make you
happy" and decide to enjoy what's in front of you.

That way, when you experience the bad news which will surely
come, you'll be fortified by your humor nature. You'll have
plenty of practice knowing that you're not a victim of life. You
are the author of your own state of being - not a puppet
being manipulated by forces out of your control.

So that, when life knocks you for a loop, you'll be ready. Not
to laugh in the face of despair. But to know, with unyielding
certainty, that this too shall pass. And you will be okay,
despite and, even because of, the tears.

I hope that the worst thing you face this week is a lot of
stacked-up dirty laundry. Regardless what your obstacles are,
though, big or small, remember to have fun and enjoy yourself
regardless of them. You'll be laying the groundwork for health
and success throughout life's twists and turns.

Harry Potter provides the perfect antidote to the seriousness that
engulfs our children as they become young adults. Whether we are
doing it intentionally or not, our children learn to believe what
we believe because they watch what we do even more than listen to
what we say.In this article, Dr. Kuhn teaches you how to use a
lesson his son stumbled upon.

Some Humor to Help You Smile

would have killed myself, but I was in analysis with a strict
