Hello

Take a Lesson from Jordan and
Enjoy the Game

"It all starts with a SMILE"

My 8-year-old grandson, Jordan, was playing
in the championship game of his little
league baseball tournament. His Indians,
while undefeated in the tournament, were
facing the best regular season team, the
Orioles. The Indians clung to a one run
lead in the bottom of the last inning, with
the Orioles best hitters due to bat.

I was so anxious I could barely sit still. I
was actually caring more about whether the
Indians won than Jordan was! Before the
first pitch was thrown to the Orioles'
leadoff hitter, however, I drew a deep
breath and remembered to simply enjoy the
game
.

Enjoying the game, in fact, is also vitally
important to your humor nature because when
you forget to do it, you're totally focused
on the results. Focusing on the results
divorces you from the process and the
moment. And here's the problem with those
outcomes: the process is where you find all
your lessons and growth
, while the moment is
where you find all your fun.

You can't afford to shortchange yourself in
those two areas!

My patient, Enid, used to be completely
results oriented, she had no concept of
enjoying the game. Enid planted lots of
seeds for personal and professional
growth...and then immediately dug them
back up
when they, inevitably, didn't
sprout quickly enough. For her, life was
all about arriving at a destination, not
making the most of the journey.

Hence, while Enid had always liked to laugh
at funny jokes (and try to make others
laugh), she missed out on the incredible
benefits of humor and fun which I am
teaching you about. I don't want you to
make the same mistakes! Enid was
rarely in the moment long enough to
experience those benefits - her life was a
series of train wrecks!

You may have more in common with Enid than
you're comfortable with. Where does your
unhappiness come from, after all? If you
examine it closely, you'll find that you're
unhappy because the universe is not adhering
to your time schedule
. You're not getting
the results you want, when you want them.

That's why leaning to enjoy the game is so
helpful to you. Enjoying the process allows
you to be fully invested in it. Enjoying
the game presents you with the serenity and
patience necessary to see the bigger
picture
, because you are no longer focused
on an outcome. Not only will your seeds be
allowed to bloom, but you will actually
enjoy your life along the way
.

You're no longer going to put conditions on
your happiness
. Your commitment to enjoy
the game will slowly dispel the myth that
happiness awaits you after you've purchased
that house, achieved that promotion, sent
your children to college, or you finally
retire. Sorry to disillusion you, but the
only place your happiness awaits you is
right now and right here!

Once you decide to enjoy the game, instead
of focus on your version of winning it,
you'll find abundant freedom of spirit and
an unstoppable energy of fun. Because
you'll be having fun with the
process
...instead of waiting around for a
result.

Jordan's Indians won that game, by the way. But
my grandson's victory was merely icing
on the cake. I had already decided to enjoy
watching a boy, who I'm incredibly proud of,
have lots of fun. And, of course, he was
way ahead of me
because he never got uptight
about it in the first place!

And, after all, isn't having fun what you're
really after? Even with all the particular
goals you have, isn't the payoff for each of
them that you will be happy? You want
happiness, right now, correct? Don't get rid of your
goals, but make a decision to enjoy the game
as you strive for them
.

Let me know, please, how your efforts to
enjoy the game this week go.
