Hello
Dr. Cliff Kuhn's Thought for the Week
A coaching client of mine, Scott, recently told
me that my Fun Factor prescription may
have made him $10,000 last week. He
credited my Fun Commandment, Act and
Interact - which had been the focus of our
weekly session. But, more about Scott later...
One of the best methods to act and interact
is to actively avoid what I call "spiritual flat tires."
A spiritual flat tire happens when I sidestep
an oncoming interaction. Maybe I see someone
that I don't want to talk to or who makes me
uncomfortable - so I act like I don't see
her or I take a different route, avoiding contact
with her.
Maybe I need to return a phone call, but I
don't want to talk to the person so I
procrastinate and avoid making it.
The reasons I don't want to act and interact
may be based upon something the other person
represents, it might be based upon a
responsibility I'm putting off,or it might
be my baggage that's giving me the
spiritual flat tire.
Whatever the reason, avoiding acting and
interacting with the people that the
Universe has placed in my path is a sure dismantling
of my humor nature - the greatest source of
energy and creativity on the earth!
Avoiding acting and interacting is a sure-fire
way to weigh myself down!
Now, back to Scott...
Scott, it turns out, finally returned a phone
call to a loan officer. He had been putting
off the call, finding reasons to not make
it, for two days. The real reason for not
making it was that he wanted the current
proposal to remain "on the table" while he
continued to explore other options.
"Today," Scott told me, "I finally remembered
to act and interact; I pumped up my
spiritual flat tire and called the guy."
"I spoke honestly with him and his new
scenario is even better than the first
one he presented me!"
The upshot is this - Scott was rewarded
for acting and interacting. The burden
of avoiding the "next right thing" was
lifted and he felt free to be honest,
energetic, and creative. His humor
nature was set free by his decision to
act and interact.
I highly recommend this course of action; you'll
be amazed at how freeing it is!
