Hello

You'd Have to Be Crazy
to Not Stay in the Moment

"It all starts with a SMILE"

Thinking about the past or the future seems
to be a catch-22. A catch-22 is a problem
in which the only solution is denied by
something inherent in the problem itself. For
example, you can't make plans without
thinking about your future, but thinking
about your future takes you out of the
present moment (where all your health,
success, and fun are found). I'll tell you
more about catch-22's shortly...

Obviously, since you were born with both the
ability to imagine and the ability to
remember, you are supposed to make use of
the future and the past
. But, come on. It's
easy to see they're not supposed to
make up 96% of your thoughts and focus.

Luckily your humor nature comes to your
rescue again! With your fully functioning
humor nature, the past can be used for what
it is intended - to learn, make corrections,
or amplify your efforts. Then you move
on
.

And with your humor nature, you can also
make use of the future in the manner it is
intended - to set goals and make plans to
reach them. Used in this way, the past and
the future actually become great tools for a
successful and healthy person
. Pretty handy
stuff, huh?

So how do you Get Lost, as my newest Fun
Commandment advises? How do you keep your
focus on the present moment as much as
possible? How do you get lost on a regular
basis
? As Paul Hornung likes to
say, "Practice, practice, practice."

And if you use humor to practice getting
lost (which I, of course, recommend over
using sex or gunfire), you'll get the side
benefits of having lots of fun too.

Your goal is to immerse yourself completely
in what you are doing
. Whether you're
driving to the grocery, raking leaves in
your side yard, or making a ham sandwich
with pepper cheese and mayo, be there in
that moment
.

I know you're used to worrying about your
upcoming toast at your brother's wedding
when you're driving. I know you're more
familiar with replaying the social faux pas
where your co-worker overheard you gossiping
about her through the bathroom door last
week while you're raking leaves. I know
you're often busy trying to guess whether
the Federal Reserve will raise interest
rates 1/4% or 1/2% at their next meeting as
you make a sandwich. Let that stuff go; try
actually involving yourself in what you're
doing!

You'll find that you're 53% less tormented
by fear, worry, shame, guilt, and regret. And
you'll find your productivity and
efficacy in any endeavor increases by 73%. All
because you got lost, what a bargain!

Does it seem to you that getting lost in the
moment is how nature actually intends us to
operate
? Me too!

And call upon fun and humor liberally to
help you get lost. You already know that
you need 30 of fun each day for
maximum health and success. But I only stop
at 30 minutes when I'm forced to
because I base my entire life around having
fun
.

Why? Fun, among other things, keeps me
rooted in the present moment, so I always
have the best opportunities
to be myself, to
put my best foot forward, and to make my
best efforts
in any endeavor. And so will
you, too, have the same opportunities, now
that you're getting lost on a regular basis.

Learn to use fun for incredible health and
success
buy practicing it as I prescribe it
everyday. Pour through the tons of free
information and tips
on my website. Use my
Fun Times newsletter
as a humor prop. One
by one, acquire and consume the wonderfully
humorous books and recordings I recommend.

By the way, the expression "catch-22" comes
from the 1961 Joseph Heller novel about
World War II. The book's hero wants to get
out of combat flight duty by pretending to
be insane. His army doctor tells him he's
on the right path, except for one catch:
anyone who is truly insane won't want out of
combat duty.

But you now know the secret to avoid making
thinking about your future or your past a
catch-22
. You're going to start using humor
to get lost today. Commit yourself to using
humor as much as I do and before you know
it, whenever someone tells you to "Get
lost!", you'll reply, "Thanks for the
reminder!"
.

"Backers of the reinstatement of the death
