Revealing What They Say on the Pitching Mound

Summer means baseball. Men standing in the sun for four hours
wearing long-sleeve, wool-blend uniforms. Makes sense somehow,
I guess.

Speaking of baseball, have you ever wondered what is being said
when the players have a mid-game meeting on the pitcher's mound?

I have a good friend who is a baseball coach and he told me. What
he told me is a good lesson for all of us so I'll break the
baseball player's code and tell you too. Just promise me you
won't tell anyone you heard it from me.

When my friend is visiting the pitcher on the pitching mound
it's almost always an occasion where the pitcher has been
struggling. My friend says he always starts by telling the
pitcher a dirty joke.

Really.

My friend says this gets the pitcher's mind off his struggles,
about which he has now reached the point of being angrily
obsessed.

Sound familiar?

Next he gives the pitcher one small, yet very real, physical
pitching tip upon which to focus. Something like: make sure
your the big toe of your stride foot is pointed toward the plate
when it lands or make sure your non-throwing elbow is pointed
toward the catcher's mitt before you begin your throw. My
friend says this re-builds the pitcher's confidence by giving
him something small, real, and controllable on which to focus.

Now I'm going to treat you like my coaching friend does his
pitchers. I'm going to walk to the pitching mound and re-focus
you by giving you something small, yet powerful, upon which to
focus this week. By following my coaching, your confidence will
soar. And you'll see amazing results!

I hope you understand, though, that I'm going to skip the dirty
joke.

Today's re-focusing tip is my Smile Strategy, Be Constantly
Curious. As you learned in It All Starts with a SMILE, being
curious about everything today keeps you in a state of
open-mindedness and willingness. And it keeps you in the
moment, which is the only place you'll find happiness, joy, and
success anyway!

Focus on being curious today! I'm certain you're going to go on
to retire the side and make the all-star team! (And I'm sure
you can find your own dirty joke)

"Ever let your parakeet out of it's cage? My parakeet will fly
across the room, right into the mirror...He will hit that
mirror: Bang! He's so stupid. Even if he thought the mirror
was another room, you'd think he'd try to avoid hitting the
other parakeet."

like bringing a disposable lighter in for repair."
