Hello
How Not to Meet Famous Athletes
By Cliff Kuhn, M.D.

"It all starts with a SMILE"
I was a curious boy. Growing up outside of
Philadelphia, I loved the Phillies
professional baseball team. And my
favorite player was the star pitcher, Hall-
of-Famer Robin Roberts. I used to wonder
what would happen if I just showed up on
his doorstep one day to talk to him.
So I did. My brother, Doug, and I looked
up his address and rode our bikes to his
house. We didn't "know any better" and had
no malicious intent. Of course, this was
an more innocent time, so I'm happy to
report that my hero welcomed us, talked
with us for a while, and even signed our
baseball mitts. My curiosity was satisfied.
If you want a tried and true method for
having more fun today, follow my childhood
lead. Be constantly curious. Bereft of
self-serving motivation, curiosity will
always open doors and provide ample
opportunities for fun. In fact, I've made
Be Constantly Curious one of my Fun
Commandments.
It's as simple as this, really: you'll find
humor and fun in abundance all around you
if you do one little thing. Look for it. That's
all. You don't have to make people
laugh or learn a bunch of jokes (although
those aren't bad things), you just have to
look for it.
And being constantly curious is a first-
rate tool to teach you to look for the
humor and fun all around you. Make a
commitment to have the curiosity of a child
today and watch where it leads you. I'll
give you your money back if you don't find
at least 65% more entertainment from your
curious mind set.
By the way, I lost that Robin Roberts
autograph, along with my million dollar
baseball card collection. But my son gave
me a genuine Robin Roberts baseball glove,
circa 1956, and another autograph from
Robin too, a few Father's Days ago.
Until I see you again in two weeks, please
let me know how curiosity serves you. And,
in the meantime, I'll prepare to tell you
how to be amazingly curious at work and at
home!
