The Fun Times - The Right Vote to Cast

Hello

The Right Vote to Cast

Wanna know who to vote for tommorrow? Yourself!

Recall the last time some really complimented. Perhaps your
husband told you how beautiful you looked in your blue summer
dress and you saw the love and devotion in his eyes. Maybe your
boss took you into her confidence after your last job well-done
and showed you just how much she trusts and relies upon you. It
might have been your cat, rolling over to expose his vulnerable
belly and showing his trust of your tender, caring stroke.

Regardless of what your exact memory is, how did it make you
feel? Accepted? Validated? Loved? Trusted? Valued? Good
enough? Or, if you’re like me, all of the above?

What if I told you that you could feel even better than that
anytime you want? You can feel that way about yourself right
now and for the rest of the day, if you choose. In fact, I’ve
created a Smile Strategy just for this purpose: Whisper Sweet
Nothings into Your Own Ear. I want you to begin practicing
positive affirmations today because almost nothing is more
important to your consistent happiness then what you say to
yourself.

Perhaps you scoff at the notion of affirmations. Maybe you
recall funny characters like Saturday Night Lives’ Stewart
Smally who always looked in his mirror and said in his sing-song
voice, “I’m good enough. I’m smart enough. And, dog gone it,
people like me.” You might even consider affirmations a little
too “new age.”

I have a secret for you that you really need to know. You are
already giving yourself affirmations, but they might not be
positive. You are doing it subconsciously, even if you decide
not to consciously give yourself affirmations. So I recommend
that you take charge of your internal script and abide by this
Smile Strategy.

Think about the last time you made a mistake. Did you tell
yourself some version of, “Oh, you are so stupid!” or did you
say, “That’s okay, there’s nothing wrong with making mistake. I’ll
just do it differently next time.”? If you’re honest with
yourself, and you’re like most, you give yourself messages more
aligned with the former.

So you’re already giving yourself affirmations. An affirmation
is, after all, merely an internal dialogue. So why wouldn’t you
take control over the messages you give yourself. Why not make
them positive ones? It doesn’t make sense not to.

One of my favorite affirmations is very simple. When I feel
worried I tell myself, “Everything is okay. I have everything I
need and I don’t expect that to ever change.” And then I force
myself to believe what I’ve just told myself, to act as if I
have that much courage and faith. In other words, I force
myself to quit worrying.

And guess what happens? Most of the time I lose the fear and
feel assured. Sometimes I need to repeat the affirmation five
minutes later, but so what? If I don’t give myself the positive
affirmation it means I’m listening to the negative one that’s
making me worry. I get to choose what I tell myself!

Cast a vote for yourself this week! Give yourself uplifting
affirmations.

Harry Potter provides the perfect antidote to the seriousness that
engulfs our children as they become young adults. Whether we are
doing it intentionally or not, our children learn to believe what
we believe because they watch what we do even more than listen to
what we say.In this article, Dr. Kuhn teaches you how to use a
lesson his son stumbled upon.
