What the Groom Doesn't Know Won't Hurt Him

Weddings are fun. There's the promise of true love in the air,
people are happy, everyone looks their best, and there's free
food. How can you go wrong?

My niece got married this weekend and I did enjoy the party. Being
open to the adventure of meeting new people, which I like
to do at parties, allowed me to get to know an interesting guy. A
salesman from Indiana who is a friend of the groom.

Scott is a successful printing salesperson. I shared my
admiration with him, as I don't think my dislike of constant
rejection would allow me a career in sales.

Scott got a wry grin at my comment and told me he knows exactly
how I feel. It seems Scott used to be afraid of rejection too,
until he learned a great secret that I'd like to pass along to
you.

Early in his career, Scott hated the rejections and sometimes
even avoided making calls because of them. But, while
tabulating his sales results one day, he noticed that he got
about ten "no's", for every one "yes". His first thought was
that all he had to do was increase his calls to get more sales -
but that didn't excite him because that also meant Scott would
be hearing more "no's".

Then it dawned on Scott that he could view things differently. Instead
of dreading the "no's", Scott could look at each "no" as
the necessary step toward his his next sale. Instantly, Scott
transformed his career because his fear became a catalyst that
he started looking forward to.

Every time Scott hears a "no", he has learned to say, "Great!
Only nine more to go before I get a sale!"

What an amazing story of the transformational power of one's
humor nature - of someone's willingness to take himself lightly
while he still takes his responsibilities seriously! I hope
you'll replicate Scott's lessons in your life today. As an
employee, a parent, or a friend - don't fear the "no's" because
they're leading you to a "yes"!

And, no, I didn't share any jokes with the groom about it taking
ten "no's" to get a "yes" from his new wife. He can find out
