"Vitality Enhancement"

By Anne Marshall

Have you ever thought about what vitality means to you? Many folks are familiar with the concept, but very few understand exactly what it is. For some folks it means having more stamina and the ability to maintain
a high pressure lifestyle, to others it may simply mean enjoying good vigor and a harmonious lifestyle.

My own interpretation is simply that it is a measure of the quantity and quality of the life force energy that we have available to us.

Like the elusive Holy Grail, scientists continue their constant search for the ‘elixir’ of life and without doubt, this has generated a great deal of valuable knowledge as well as many nutritional, herbal and other products that can stimulate you, for a while at least. Sadly though, many of these methods are often short lived, assisting only for the duration of the treatment.

The good news is that we all have the potential to enhance our vigor, to be even happier, healthier and stronger. So how does one go about this?

The first and perhaps the most vital step is to assess yourself and begin to build an appreciation of what might be holding you back from your personal best.

This might sound easy but if I were to ask you how one would rate one's overall vigor on a score of one to ten, with one being as low as you can get and ten representing the maximum amount one can imagine, what would your answer be?

Did you score ten? Well if you did, well done and keep on doing whatever it is that you are doing. For most of us though there is room for improvement. So the next step is to look at all the areas in your life which can effect you and ask the same question again. For example, in my own work as a Vitality Consultant I ask my clients to consider the following aspects of their life and give each a score.

  • Diet / Exercise
  • Overall Physical vigor
  • Specific Ailments
  • Sexuality / Relationships
  • Ability to cope with change

  • Happiness
  • Rest / Recreation
  • Energy levels

If one were to do the same, what aspects of your life would you choose to represent a balanced overview and what score would you give yourself in each area?

If one scored seven or less in any particular area then it’s likely that one would benefit from making some improvements. Sometimes, it can seem that there are too many aspects of our lives that could benefit from improvement and if that is the case for you, just step back and focus on the one area that you can change most easily. So let me ask you now, what is the best thing that you can do today to increase your vitality by just one point?

Are you willing to do what it takes to be even more vibrant and vigorous? If your answer is no, then be honest about that, it may be that you are just too comfortable to be willing to change. If your answer is yes, then as soon as you have finished reading this article, go and get yourself a pen and paper and write down your commitment to change.

The best way to do this is to state your intention in the form of a goal that is specific, measurable, action based, realistic and set in time. Whatever you chose to do it’s also really vital to make sure that you phrase your commitment or goal using only positive language.

So for example, rather than saying, I want to increase my stamina, try saying “I now intend to go on a 5 mile walk, three times a week,” or whatever is relevant to you. Go ahead, give your's a boost and remember change can happen very quickly, it’s the not changing that takes a long time!
